Tasty, Organic Snacks for Kids

by Stacy on April 14, 2010

Ok, I have a confession to make … I think I may be addicted to Clif Bars. Seriously, they are so ooey gooey, tasty good and the perfect solution when we’re out and about and don’t get home in time for lunch. That’s why i jumped for joy when I was asked to try Clif Kid ZBars … and guess what … I think I like them EVEN MORE! :)

Cliff Kid ZBars are more like cookies than their gooey aunts and uncles but still pack a healthy punch and tide my kids over when we’re outdoors walking, hiking, or playing at the park. Their flavors are so delicious, I just had to insist my kids “share” these special treats with me :) (hey, don’t judge – at least I’m teaching them to share, right?)

Happy thoroughly enjoying his 1st Zbar

Since the kids versions only have 130 calories versus the grownup 260 version. I may even replace a few of my go-to snacks with these yummy treat bars. I feel like I’m eating something I shouldn’t be (indulging, dare I say) , but instead I’m getting 12 vitamins and minerals and 7-11 grams of whole grains not to mention 3 grams of protein. Um, I mean that’s what I’m serving my kids … I also rest easy knowing the bar is certified organic and that I recognize every ingredient that went into making it.

Try all 6 amazing flavors (I promise you wont be disappointed)

Blueberry (120 cals)
Chocolate Brownie (130 cals) Tastiest Bar EVER!! Doubles as a special treat/dessert even
Chocolate Chip (130 cals)
Honey Graham (130 cals)
Peanut Butter (140 cals)
S’mores (130 cals)

I found a variety pack of 24 Clif Kid Zbars for just $14 + Free Prime Shipping
($11.90 if you use Subscribe & Save)

* I was not paid to write this product review, however I did receive a free sample of each flavor Zbar in order to form my own opinion on this great product. Clif Zbars will be added to the KSW pantry list (coming soon) as a go-to product for children’s and healthy Mom snacks. If you aren’t familiar with Clif Bar & Company take a moment to read their incredible story here.

A Gobble Gobble Good Time

Turkey Cookies

~ Sugar Cookies
~
Chocolate Icing
~
Candy Corn
~
White Chocolate Chips
~
Orange Decorating Gel

These incredibly easy-to-make cookies are the perfect activity to get kids excited about Turkey Day. There’s no need for perfection, so let your kids have a ball creating wonky turkeys and cross-eyed fowl. There’s even time for a quick lesson in Giving and more than likely, you won’t even need to play Teacher. When I made these cookies with my toddlers this afternoon, they asked if we could make some extras to take to their soccer coach, Nana & Papa, Aunt Mel and Uncle Birdie {they like to get creative when naming their relatives}. Be still my heart, I’ve raised a pair of Good Samaritans.

To make your own sweet treats: Bake sugar cookies from your grocery store (less fuss), spread a layer of chocolate frosting along the top of the cookie, smoosh candy corn into the icing, use decorating gel as glue to attach white chocolate chips as eyes, then use the gel to draw a V-shaped beak and pupils. Voila, instant whimsy and loads of fun. I apologize in advance for the sugar rush that follows …

Like most moms, I spend way too much time struggling to find healthy snacks for my kids. No matter what I choose, I usually come home feeling guilty about my choices. Guilty because what I’ve chosen is either healthy for them but horrible tasting or delicious tasting and full of sugar and preservatives.

That’s why I was thrilled when I found Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks. Funky Monkey, the fruit that crunches, is a delicious, convenient freeze dried snack with the natural goodness of fresh fruit.

Available in Bananamon, Carnaval Mix, Jivealime, or Purple Funk

Why KSW loves it: We love that Funky Monkey uses whole fruit slices so you can see the natural goodness you’re giving your kids. We also love that each package is just 110 calories and contains the equivalent of 3 servings of fruit and NO added sugar or preservatives. It’s also 100% Natural ~ Gluten Free, Wheat Free, Dairy Free and three of the flavors are USDA certified organic.

Tip: Try some Funky Monkey in yogurt or even on top of ice cream

Grab some Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks from Amazon. You can even Save an extra 15% with Subscribe & Save and get FREE SHIPPING

Being GREEN can be EASY

by Stacy on March 13, 2009

Growing up, St. Patrick’s day was always my favorite non-major holiday. St. Patrick’s day meant a day with my dad, a trip to the parade, face paint, tons of GREEN, fried foods, and most importantly tons of fun.

That’s why I was astonished when it came to my realization, that I almost MISSED IT this year. My children are getting older and it’s time to start sharing some of my fond memories of this Irish Holiday with them. I’m new in town and not sure if there is a parade anywhere near by? Still, I did manage to find a few things online that can help us have a GREENTASTIC St. Patrick’s Day right here at home.

Thank you,  Tara, for your fantastic collection of St. Paddy’s day crafts that got us started.

Look for this post to grow until the official St. Patrick’s Day!

Leprechaun Beards

Now here’s a mom I’d love to make friends with, look at these Leprechaun costumes she whipped up using finds from the Dollar Store

Another fabulous DIY mom, Morgan from One More Moore teaches us how to make these super cute Shamrock pins

St Paddy's Popcorn treat

Who could resist this super cute, super tasty easy green snack from a new to me site, Bright Ideas?

I thought it was almost impossible to top those amazing popcorn balls {above} but check out this super simple Over The Rainbow centerpiece from JesseKate Designs, I just may reconsider

Leprechaun Trap

I have a feeling older kids would love constructing this amazing Leprechaun Trap from Artists Helping Children

Shamrock Mobil

Then there was the Crayon Shamrocks from Smile Monsters, that reminded us of the heart version we posted for Valentines

shamrocktree

If crayon shavings & irons sounds a bit daunting for your Green Holiday, perhaps you would prefer this simpler Shamrock Tree from DLTK’s Crafts for Kids

If you can’t find one of your own Zakka Life has a great tutorial on how to make your own Lucky four leaf clover

Shamrock Tee

Not sure what I like more, how easy this Shamrock Tee is to make or how happy this little girl is to be wearing it. Too cute

I have a feeling that little girl {above} would also love a pair of these Rainbow Streamers, consider them St. Patrick’s Day pom-poms if you will

Leprechaun Top Hats

These adorable Leprechaun Top Hats are made using recycled items from around the house and will soon be a stunning mobile, I can’t wait to see the final product on Viva Full House

Shamrock Necklace

Love this creative Shamrock necklace handcrafted by Sarah from The Small Object

Green Bird

If you wanted to spruce up your website or twitter page, try my favorite online artist Tricia Rennea. I’m loving this cute birdie she drummed up for my favorite day.

Look for us to add some great new crafts over the next few days and no mater how you’re planning to celebrate, we hope you have one AMAZING St. Patrick’s Day
