Stoked for Kids Clothes Week

by Stacy on May 7, 2010

The second week of May was officially dubbed Kids Clothes Week by one of my very favorite Momma’s,Meg of Elsie Marley. I have been reading her blog for so long that it is the only blog I still receive via email. The other 100+ of you are filed away neatly in my reader. Luckily for me, Elsie being in my inbox means I rarely miss anything that she’s doing and when she told me about Kids Clothes Week, well let’s just say … she had me at Hello :)

The premise is SIMPLE. Spend 1 hour each night next week working on clothing for your kids. It can be any thing you want, any skill level, any pattern, any project. Just devote your undivided attention to it. Now normally, I probably wouldn’t be able to find an hour every night but next week my husband will be out of town and well I just happened to uncover my sewing machine in the garage this week so … GAME ON.

I will warn you in advance, I have NO sewing skills. I still have problems keeping the needle threaded between stitches and get frustrated every time I have to link the upper thread and bobbin thread together, but I’m a sappy old soul and have dreamed of making things for my children for years. So this is the week, I’m going to give it a go.

Here’s a list of projects I’m thinking of trying (who knows how many I will get to but hey, maybe you’ll see something you like):

15 Minute Pajama Pants (my kids are in desperate need of new pajamas)
Bandana Pants (this was one of my 1st posts and I still haven’t made them)
Simple Bandana Dress (I have a plethora of bandanas :) )
Ruffle Sleeve Top (Another oldie, but goodie)
One Hour Sundress (1 hr, need I say more??)

I chose projects I thought I could do even with my very limited skills, I’m hoping to complete all of them :) Wish me Luck

If your project was listed here, feel free to add the As Seen on KSW button to your site. You deserve it

Could you use a Pick Me Up?

by Stacy on November 12, 2008

Well, I know I could – I’ve been terribly sick for almost three weeks now and I can think of nothing that would make me feel better than what I’m about to share with you. Camille must have known what I was feeling when she designed her Jelly Filled quilt – who wouldn’t feel instantly better wrapped up in this bright and cheerful piece?

Jelly Filled quilt

If you’ve never been to Simplify by Camille, this mother of two’s gorgeous blog then you’re in for a real treat. Her creativity and stunning photography skills always leave me wanting more.

Today, Camille has decided to give me a chance at MORE – well, actually she’s giving everyone a chance.

To win one of her gorgeous quilts that is, and oh what a wonderful Christmas gift to me this would be. Part of my motives for passing this one along are selfish (I’d love the extra three entries to win) but another, bigger part of me wants to tell everyone I meet about Camille and her fantastic quilts. So first, head on over to ThimbleBlossoms – her Etsy store where she sells her one of a kind quilt patterns and select your favorite. Next, click here and enter yourself in the contest (you’ll need to know your favorite pattern in order to do so). Hurry, this giveaway ends on Nov 24th.

It sounds like rain …

by Stacy on November 5, 2008

DIY Rainsticks

Super Crafty Suzanne originally shared this idea for a cheap, easy, and fun project for kids with Good Morning Connecticut, but I’m even more excited about her posting the idea on her site, see the post here. Who would have a guessed an old wrapping paper tube, some crafts you have on hand and a few beans could turn into something so wonderful. I truly cannot wait to share this project with my children. They’ve never met a rain stick they didn’t like.

Map storage tube

At work I often use expandable mailing tubes that would also be perfect for this project. These tubes have plastic or metal caps on each end that would make sealing the ends a neater and more permanent solution.

If you make your own version of a rain stick, we’d love to see pictures or hear your story. Post them here or email us at kidsstuffworld@gmail.com Don’t forget to check out our other Fun Things To Do With Your Kids ideas – let us know how you like the content so far and what types of activities you’d like to see more of.

Jelly Bellied

Jelly Bean Costume

Here’s a gender-neutral, colorful costume that can be made in mere minutes. This Jelly Bean costume was found on a site called Quick and Simple and boy did they get that right. All you need is a clear trash bag, some balloons, and a piece of ribbon. Even Dad could make this one :)
