Modern Farmhouse Source List

by Stacy on December 3, 2011

Modern Farmhouse

Here’s the source list for the Modern Farmhouse I promised, almost all of these pieces are IKEA. When purchasing from IKEA, use caution. Always check the quality of the item before you buy. Sometimes things that look great online can be of poor quality when you see them in person. Just use your best judgement when shopping there, plenty of fab finds mixed in with some junk.

Kids Farm Room

1. Torva Baby Blanket $15
2. Torva Smultron Baby Bedding $13
3. Torva Strawberry $5
4. Lekfull Land Rug $8
5. Barnslig Randig Curtains $25
6. Trofast Storage Unit $224
7. Linnarp Desk $119
8. Soft Farmhouse Toy $20
9. Soft Vegetable Toy $8
10. Blue Plaid Sheet Set $15
11. Red Storage Ottoman $20 (No longer online)

Hope this list helps someone out there, oh yeah and I found an alternate red storage cubby for $20 … just have to find my notes … and I’ll update the link.

There are 11 of you waiting for room boards of your own right now. I’ll post a list on my sidebar so you can keep track and see what number you are. I’m excited to share two new room boards with you I really love. Having so much fun with these! Thanks guys

The secret to a great playroom

by Stacy on April 15, 2011

Psst, want me to let you in on a little secret?

Alright, it’s actually a HUGE secret.

And just might be the key to your happiness when it comes to corralling all of the things your little ones seem to accumulate and creating a play space both you and your kids can be happy with.

.

.

.

.

.

Are you ready for it?

It’s …. Storage!

And not just any storage, but DOUBLE DUTY storage to be exact.

Because come on, don’t tell me you don’t want to squeeze every function possible into this space. Playroom + Guest Room + Library + Study Area + Craft/Art Space + Home Office maybe …

Let me help you achieve all your dreams for this space with this very simple rule.

When you start planning to purchase any pieces for your child’s room or playroom, make sure these pieces will be real work horses in the space. Any item coming in must fulfill at least two functions.

My personal favorites fill the role of either

storage + seating

or

storage + play/work space

And the best part is, these pieces don’t have to cost a fortune. Here’s a few of my favorite double duty storage pieces in just about every price range. (click on the images to be taken to a place to get prices & sources for each)

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. I’ll be back after Earth Day & Easter to show you one very stylish, affordable exception to this rule.

Sweet Tweets from Raspberry Kids

This gorgeous Little Chipipi Red Robin wall sticker collection was sent my way shortly after arriving to Texas. With no furniture in the house and plenty of time on our hands, my children and I have become VERY fond of these adorable decals. I wasn’t quite sure how these delicate looking stickers would hold up to being handled by two aggressive toddlers, but they have certainly proven their durability in this house. (Word of Caution: The dragonflies are a bit more delicate than the other pieces) Still, our final verdict: Not only do these decals look amazing but they can take a little abuse too.

My youngest (2) loves to stick them all on top of each other, only to immediately rip them apart again and then stick and restick to the walls- over and over and well, you get the idea. My oldest (3) prefers to take his shirt off and stick them all over his body. He gets such a kick out of it and admittedly, I do too. Perhaps one of these days, I’ll manage to have a camera nearby to catch him in action. I’m sure Grandma would appreciate a shot of that. I’m happy to announce the decals are still rather sticky after several play dates with my children and even after being ground into our brand new shedding carpets (I know, what’s with that?) quite a few times. Repositioning is a breeze and the creative possibilities are endless.

Why We Love Them: Besides the fact they’re adorable, the Little Chipipi wall decals are a mom made product that delights the interior designer hiding inside of us AND satisfies our need for a bit of whimsy in the kids bedroom. Also available in butterflies and an adorable surfer-vibe transportation theme, check them out at the always Fresh and always Fun, Raspberry Kids. (Love this store)

Cost: $65 ($55 w/ discount)- While priced higher than average wall decals on the market, these stickers provide a whimsical, artistic feel to the room instead of the novelty commercial look of some others we’ve tried. Note: Prices on site appear in Canadian Dollars, we have done an estimated US conversion for you. Get a 15% discount if you purchase by Earth Day with the coupon code: motherearth15

If you like this, Try These: The Little Chipipi Red Robin Wall Stickers would look great paired with these accessories we found during one of our favorite past times, shopping online.

Remember the Whimsical Sunrise Nursery?

by Stacy on November 23, 2008

Do you remember this post? This was our first Kids Room design project – featured back in August. At the time KSW didn’t have many readers, we were less than one month old, but now just a few months later we have a strong followership show we thought we would revitalize this room.

A Little History

On Aug 4th, we promised to design a unique, affordable nursery inspired by Urban Outfitter’s Spectrum Chandelier. After 10 days of hand-selecting each and every item, we presented you with…the Whimiscal Sunrise Nursery. This nursery was designed for everyday people with everyday problems. We developed a room that exudes color without ever needing a drop of paint. (perfect for our readers who live in apartments or houses they can’t paint) We also chose pieces that could be personally customized for our DIY readers. (Hint, try using the wall decals to decorate the toy box. Line the back of the dresser with scrapbooking paper for an even more individual look. Why not sew a few color fabric shapes onto the wardrobe to add that last pop of color.) And finally, we planned this room to really maximize its space. (Notice every piece of furniture is focused on stoarge- the crib has a drawer underneath, multiple colored shelves to hold stuffed toys above the toy box, a wardrobe, a bookcase and even a back of the door organizer.)

And now for the best part, we designed this room all for a budget under $1,000!! Can you believe it? Want to see how we spent the money?
