Robots on a Rampage

The Backyardigans: Robot Repairman

Did you catch the Backyardigans premiere, Robot Repairman, on Nick Jr last week? There was no way we were going to miss it. We started counting down weeks in advance. It was all anyone talked about … 3 more days till the new Backyardigans, 2 more days Mommy, 1 more … Mommy, is today the day? I’m very selective of the shows I let my children watch, but the Backyardigans are so cute & musical I just can’t resist them. I’ve been known to burst out singing Boinga, the Alicia Keys song from Mission to Mars (what, you didn’t know that was Alicia Keys? I told you these guys were cool) at any given moment.

Oh yeah, about the robots … well, as usual, they rocked. The story line was cute (our favorite Backyardigan actually got a starring role – Yay!), the music was catchy and well the theme, the theme was one of our favorites. We just can’t pass up a good robot story.

When it was over we were still engrossed with robots. We needed them, we wanted them, we had to have them. So, we built our very own robots out of items in our recycle bin. We had a ton of fun and played with our new friends for the rest of the afternoon. If you have a preschooler at home, you know that’s a pretty decent amount of time to hold their attention span :) Bonus points for that!

Space Guy

Pretty Cute, eh?

To Make Your Own Robots, You’ll Need:

  • Cardboard (We used a cereal box)
  • Some Alumnium Foil
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Googly Eyes
  • A Glue Gun (Unless your eyes are stick ons)
  • Jewels, Stickers, Beads, Whatever you can find to adorn them with

Draw your robot shape on a cereal box, ask Mom & Dad to cut him out, wrap the shape in Aluminum Foil, smoosh till the foil is nice and flat, cut the foil in any knicks and crannies and the fold until you get the look you’re going for, have Mom hot glue some eyes on, and then go wild decorating him with whatever shiny stuff or buttons & knobs you have on hand. ~ Enjoy!

I added this to the ABC & 123 Show & Tell Tuesdays!

Our Perfect Valentines Day

by Stacy on February 9, 2010

The Westin La Cantera wants to know what the KSW toddlers, perfect Valentine’s Day would be like. Here’s the general consensus of what a perfect V-Day looks like for these two crazy tots.

Begins With This:

Mama’s Sweet Potato Heart Shaped Pancakes with Fresh Strawberries … YUM!!

Followed by a little of this:

Valentines Finger Painting

{We borrowed this awesome piece of work from the Art Emporium}

Then its outside for a little of this and this:

Valentine’s Sidewalk Chalk Murals

Popcorn Bird Feeder

Popcorn Bird feeder from Ordinary Life Magic

After feeding the birds, we’d love to make some of these with Mom:

We found these at Grumpy’s Honeybunch

For Lunch, nothing is better than some tasty PB & J:

Sister likes hers with grape & strawberry jelly and tons of PB. I prefer mine with PB & honey and maybe a few slices of banana – I’m a wholesome, natural kind of kid :)

Image from here

We’ll take a tiny little nap and then wake up just in time to watch:

Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You Special Edition’

If we’re really good, Mom says we can make these

Mom found this idea from this awesome lady at Makes and Takes

For dinner, of course we’ll have our ALL TIME favorite – line noodles with red sauce

Then it’s pajama party time, dancing around with Mom & Dad, jumping on couch cushions on the floor and playing with flashlights before we get whisked away for a bedtime story.

Valentines_PJ_Party

Now, that’s a perfect Valentine’s Day!!!! Of course, it would be really great too if Mom & Dad could win a hotel night stay at a fancy, schmancy hotel. I’ll bet jumping on that bed would be EVEN COOLER!!!

This post is part of The Westin La Cantera Resort‘s Valentine’s Day with a View contest. Enter between Jan. 25 and Feb. 8 for your chance to win a one-night stay for two at The Westin La Cantera Resort on Saturday, February 13, which includes a romantic dinner for two at Francesca’s at Sunset and two rounds of golf to be played at either of our championship courses during your stay. Family Time – Snow White Movie Night

by Stacy on November 2, 2009

Halloween may be over, but chances are your child is still craving a little dress up time and imaginative play. What better way to give in to their desires, than with a themed movie night that is bound to be fun for your whole family!

I’m starting a new KSW series, I’ll call - Family Movie Nights – it’s kind of fitting that our first movie in the series is known as The One That Started Them All,  the first animated feature film in America, ~*~*~ Snow White ~*~*~. From time to time, KSW will feature fun ideas for family togetherness that will not only help bring your family closer but also build lasting memories you will cherish for years to come.

Make an evening at home a little more interesting by inserting a few fun activities and creative treats into the mix. Personalize the experience for your kids but Keep it Simple by focusing on these three areas – Create, Eat & Watch

CREATE

The Snow White Crown is perfect for your little princess and adds some flair to your existing dress-up collection

The adorable felt broom works for boys or girls and will look super cute in your child’s play room

What could be more fun than creating your own version of the seven dwarves with recycled toilet paper rolls- I can almost hear them now, Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, it’s off to work we go

Have your kids color these FREE Snow White Coloring pages and use them as placemats

EAT

Anything made from apples or in miniature {cause of the dwarves} will work but I’m loving the idea of serving a crisp juicy apple, alongside a few of these witch hat cookies. My family made these for Halloween, they’re the perfect cookie project for toddlers.

Or take the apple theme a step further: Set up DIY Candy Apple assembly area with a few containers of chocolate, caramel, and nuts and let the kids do the rest.

You could even whip up seven easy pies

WATCH

snowwhite_diamondedition

The brand-new Diamond Collection includes a Blu-Ray, high-definition version of the movie, a DVD copy of the film, and several bonus features not included on the 2001 DVD. KSW was given a promotional copy for review and was super impressed by the color quality of this picture.

Why We Love It: We love a movie with a message and this one has quite a few. There’s the obvious lessons for the kids – Don’t Accept Gifts from Strangers and What’s on the inside is even more beautiful than what’s on the outside, but there’s even a message behind the scenes in Snow White. You see, this movie is a true testament to the phrase Triumph over Adversity. You see, Walt Disney met quite a bit of resistance from friends, family and business partners while trying to produce this film. Despite even his wife’s pleas to halt production, Disney followed his heart and mortgaged his home to complete the film. And we’re so thrilled he did!

Why Diamond Edition You Ask? It’s like getting 2 movies for the price of one – If you’re like me than you have a stack of movies suitable for your children to take on long trips or to frineds and Grandma’s house. Then, you have your Disney Classics tucked away for safe keeping gathering dust on your shelf and being reserved for special occasions. Well, not anymore … You get one version, the Blu-Ray as a keepsake copy for your home and another DVD version that you can take with you wherever you go. Keep the Blu- Ray version in your home for family nights :) and carry the normal DVD version with you in the car, to a friends house, on a plane, whatever – whenever – whereever.

This is Disney’s first release in the “Diamond Collection” series of movies, get your copy from Amazon for just $19.99 & FREE shipping with Amazon Prime

KSW Loves Halloweenies

by Stacy on October 23, 2009

Details here

Get her here

Witches and Pirates and Ballerinas, Oh My! I’m swooning with delight over these FREE adorable downloads Babalisme is so graciously sharing with us for Halloween. What a fun activity for children at a Halloween Party, or as a take home gift, or even as an alternative to Halloween candy if you’re a zealous paper cutter. I’ll be cutting my own version soon, but these were way too cute not to share. Pass on the cuteness, then stop by Babalisme and tell her all about it :)

Sweet Treats and Tasty Tricks

by Stacy on October 19, 2009

KSW_sweet_treats

As Halloween inches nearer and nearer, I find myself dreaming of all sorts of Sweet Treats to make for the kids. Since this is my first year being able to go All Out for Halloween in many years, I’d love to make this special night something my kids will remember for a long, long time. Fortunately for me, there are a TON of super-cute and easy to recreate (two of my absolute MUSTS for any craft and/or recipe) ideas all over the web. Here are a few of my faves: (Clockwise from L-R: chocolately witch hats, pretzel spider cupcakes, Bakerella’s trix spiderweb cupcakes, monster madness cupcakes, scrumptious Halloween smores

I get the feeling, the tons of Halloween candy we collect will be the least of our sugar-laden worries. Nonetheless, I’m planning a fantastic Happy Haunting party. Sure wish all of you could stop by …
