Stoked for Kids Clothes Week

by Stacy on May 7, 2010

The second week of May was officially dubbed Kids Clothes Week by one of my very favorite Momma’s,Meg of Elsie Marley. I have been reading her blog for so long that it is the only blog I still receive via email. The other 100+ of you are filed away neatly in my reader. Luckily for me, Elsie being in my inbox means I rarely miss anything that she’s doing and when she told me about Kids Clothes Week, well let’s just say … she had me at Hello :)

The premise is SIMPLE. Spend 1 hour each night next week working on clothing for your kids. It can be any thing you want, any skill level, any pattern, any project. Just devote your undivided attention to it. Now normally, I probably wouldn’t be able to find an hour every night but next week my husband will be out of town and well I just happened to uncover my sewing machine in the garage this week so … GAME ON.

I will warn you in advance, I have NO sewing skills. I still have problems keeping the needle threaded between stitches and get frustrated every time I have to link the upper thread and bobbin thread together, but I’m a sappy old soul and have dreamed of making things for my children for years. So this is the week, I’m going to give it a go.

Here’s a list of projects I’m thinking of trying (who knows how many I will get to but hey, maybe you’ll see something you like):

15 Minute Pajama Pants (my kids are in desperate need of new pajamas)
Bandana Pants (this was one of my 1st posts and I still haven’t made them)
Simple Bandana Dress (I have a plethora of bandanas :) )
Ruffle Sleeve Top (Another oldie, but goodie)
One Hour Sundress (1 hr, need I say more??)

I chose projects I thought I could do even with my very limited skills, I’m hoping to complete all of them :) Wish me Luck

If your project was listed here, feel free to add the As Seen on KSW button to your site. You deserve it

Easter Plans

by Stacy on April 1, 2010

I was planning a low-key family Easter this year with nothing “eggstravagant” or fancy since this is probably the last year I’ll be able to get away with it (my oldest is 4). That is, that was my plan … UNTIL … I stumbled on to Heather’s site and her adorable letter to the Easter bunny which filled me with all sorts of fun ideas. I’m still going to stay true to myself and do this all pretty low-key, but here’s what we’ll be doing at our house this Sunday.

- Brown Sugar Glazed Ham, Mac & Cheese (w/ hidden veggies) & Green Beans

- Carrot Cake (made on Saturday & left out for the Easter Bunny)

I’ll be testing a new & improved, healthy carrot cake recipe (if all goes well I’ll share it with you soon)

- Fun & Simple Dyed Eggs

- Easter Egg Hunt (eggs filled with puzzle pieces instead of candy)

Thank you Family Fun, for this great idea

- Resurrection Rolls (borrowed this idea from Smashed Peas and Carrots)

I only wish I had the energy to do some of these amazing finds – there’s always next year I guess

Bakerella style Easter Oreo Suckers from How Does She

Finally a good use for Peeps, I’m loving this Easter Centerpiece from Mix Mingle Glow

Too Cute Peep Shirts from All The Small Things

If you were featured on this post or any previous post on Kids Stuff World, be proud to sport the brand new As Seen on KSW badge :)
I only ask that you link the image back to KSW (email me if you have no idea what I’m talking about but want the shiny new badge)

Wrapping Presents the Kidmade Way

by Stacy on December 19, 2009

Kidmade Wrapping Paper

I’m thankful this time of year to have three Merry elves running around my home offering to help me in any way ~ whether it’s Decking My Halls or Ringing My Bells these guys have it covered.

That’s why this homemade wrapping paper activity was just the thing we needed to occupy busy hands on a blustery day. Armed with newspaper, brown paper sacks and some drawing paper we stuck dozens of stickers, stamped many stamps and then wrapped everything with loads of glittering ribbon.

Picture perfect, if I must say so myself, and since we had all the adornments in our craft supply we also did this for, well… FREE! What could be Merrier than that?

Salty Snow Prints

by Stacy on December 10, 2009

There’s not a whole lot of snow here in Texas, but I’m of the mindset that if you have lemons you should make lemonade! No snow you say? That’s no reason not to have a White Christmas as long as you have some salt on hand. Our Advent Art Activity for the 9th day of December was making salty snow prints. I got the idea from an amazing “friend” and fellow crafty Momma, Val from Frugal Family Fun Blog

Why KSW Loves These: Nothing could be simpler to make and chances are, you have everything you need to make these hiding in your cabinets

To make your own Salty Snow Prints, you’ll need:
~ Construction Paper
~ Elmer’s Glue
~ Baking Sheet or a Box Lid
~ Crayons or Chalk
~ Salt

First, have your kids draw images on construction paper using crayons or chalk. Next, help your kids trace their drawings with glue. Now, here’s the REALLY important part … place the picture on a baking sheet or some surface with a lip to catch the salt. Have fun pouring or sprinkling salt over the glue with your little ones, shift the salt around to make sure all the glue is covered. Empty the excess salt off your paper and let it dry {additional salt will also need to be shaken off once the pictures dry}

Have a blast with these and please send me photos of your Salty Snow Prints
