New Years Eve in my mind

by Stacy on December 31, 2012

ideas for New Years Eve

It’s 6pm on New Years Eve and the party at our house is in full swing. In my mind’s eye, it looks just like this. Elegant and sparkly, kid-friendly and lots and lots of fun.

In reality, we’re lying on a bed of pillows on the floor watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in our sweatpants.

I wanted more for all of us. Something prettier than this, but we’ve been knee deep in house projects for the last few days and truth be told we’re all a little tuckered out. Tonight, we’ll relish in each other’s company, cuddle a lot, eat popcorn and chase each other in the dark with glow sticks, it will be equally wonderful in our own little way.

I’ll file these lovely projects aways for another fun family night.

Family Friendly New Years Ideas:
- New Years Eve Party Hats
- Glitter Fun Paint

- New Years Wishing Wands

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and feeling blessed you keep coming back to share your time with me. Looking forward to lots of fun new happenings in 2013.

Simple Advent Activity: Paper Plate Bow Wreaths

by Stacy on December 12, 2012

I’m so excited today to be joining the Creative Christmas Countdown with so many of my favorite kid crafts bloggers. Alissa of Creative with Kids and Maggy of Red Ted Art created this online advent calendar as a way for bloggers to share fun, simple ideas for families to do together during the holidays.

One of my favorite activities to do with my kids each year are these shiny bow wreaths.

They take only a few minutes to make, but sure do make a great statement piece hanging up in your home. You probably have everything you need to make a few right now.

Supplies for bow wreaths

All you need is a paper plate, some christmas bows, a pair of scissors and a stapler. Here’s a quick photo tutorial my kids put together to show you how to make them.

See? Super simple and beautiful. These make great teacher and neighbor gifts and family members love them too. I usually loop a piece of ribbon and staple to the back so I can hang them anywhere I like. If you make some of these, I would love to see them! Please share them with me here or on my Facebook page so I can see how they turned out.

If you liked this activity, you will really enjoy the rest of the Creative Christmas Countdown. They have made it super easy for folks to follow along this year. You can view a supply and activity list before hand and even get activities emailed to your inbox each day this month.

I can’t wait to see what Creative Family Fun does tomorrow!

Don’t Ever Stop Being You

by Stacy on December 9, 2012

If ever there was a message that could sum up what I would like to say to my creative, unique, beautiful, wonderful and bright daughter … it would be this:

Outfit if the day #instakid

People tell me all the time how great it is that I let her express herself through her outfits and wardrobe choices but in reality, I could not envision her any other way. I love every moment of it and I hope she always feels as comfortable with letting her true self shine as she does right now.

She is the fruit loop in my bowl of cheerios.

School Lunch Idea: Mini Hawaiian Subs

by Stacy on September 4, 2012

kids lunch ideas

I asked all my friends on Facebook how I could be most helpful in getting them back in to the rhythm of balancing school, and work, and family life. I was super surprised to see 90% of them needed some fresh ideas for packing lunches, but you know what? — this seems to be a growing topic in our home too!

I sat down with my kiddos and we did some serious brainstorming.  We took school guidelines, allergy restrictions and all of their unique likes and dislikes into heavy consideration. We came up with a list of lunch ideas for school, some more healthy than others … we could all be happy about.

First up, are the cute little mini subs. Did you know Hawaiian Bread made mini sub rolls now? Me neither. Check it.

packed lunch ideas

These sweet little hawaiian subs have turkey, provolone and a squeeze of Ken’s Lite Honey Mustard. I microwave the meat & cheese on the bread for 10-12 seconds to give it that straight from the deli effect.

These are outstanding at home fresh out the microwave and I havent had any complaints or half eaten sandwiches since we started packing them for school.

healthy lunch ideas

I paired this lunch with some scrabble cheezits (confession: cheez-its are my all time weakness) and some freeze dried fruit, like this.

crunchies mixed fruit

I’ve tried a lot of freeze dried fruit in our house and it doesn’t always get the warmest welcome. This brand however, all 3 of my littles enjoyed.

There you have it, our first back to school lunch idea. Stay tuned for more ideas for school lunches.

The containers we’re using are glad products. They are BPA free and we have them in sandwich and snack size. I like that I can fit the snack container into the sandwich container like this. Handy. Dandy & Cheap. :)

I have partnered with The Glad Products Company through DailyBuzz Moms to help promote their BPA-free Food Storage products. I have been compensated for my time and efforts. However, my opinions and ideas are, as always, entirely my own. I have not been paid to publish positive comments. Thank you GLAD!
