How to pack a chic overnight bag

Have you ever seen those paparazzi photos of celebrities walking through airports looking effortlessly chic while carrying their designer overnight bag? I’m always wondering what they have in those carry-ons to keep them looking so stylish while I schlep off the plane looking exhausted and unkempt. Well ladies, our newest fashion editor, Tori is sharing her secrets on how to pack a chic overnight bag so that you can travel in style looking refreshed and recharged!

Tori’s Travel Tips

Killer post on how to pack a chic overnight bag when traveling

1. It’s all in the bag!

Everything begins with selecting an overnight bag that is, not only stylish, but also has plenty of room for everything you will need. Don’t forget to consider the size of the bag to ensure that it will meet airline carry-on restrictions or you’ll be forced into that last-minute baggage check. Here are a few chic weekender bags – all under $100 – that I love:

2. Our hair’s best friend.

Dry shampoo is seriously your hair’s best friend. My favorite is Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo which soaks up oil, gives you volume and smells fresh. Give your roots a little spritz in the bathroom and voila – clean hair!

3. The instant uplift.

BeautyCounter’s Rosewater Uplifting Spray is one of my must-have travel items. It’s a skin-softening toning spray made with organic rosewater.

4. Put your face on!

I never leave home without my travel makeup case with all my favorite cosmetics and all my necessities such as deodorant, toothbrush, contacts, my Baublerella Bling Brush and charger.

5. Go big or go home!

The bigger the better when it comes to your sunnies while traveling. These lovelies from Burberry are sure to give you an instant celebrity look (similar styles here).

6. The scarf.

The scarf is the perfect traveling accessory for all chic ladies. Not only does it provide warmth but it can be used as a breastfeeding cover-up and gives you that effortless traveler look. I also always recommend bringing a blazer or cardigan to keep the chill out.

7. Just say “NO!” to wrinkles.

As a fashion stylist wrinkles are my nemesis! When you are on-the-go traveling you don’t have time to iron (actually my goal in life is to NOT iron). Not to mention, sitting in a car or on a plane will wreak havoc on your clothes. Downy’s Wrinkle Releaser Plus 3-ounce. travel size is my all-in-one solution. Not only is it TSA approved, but it fits perfectly in my purse or carry-on and works like a charm!

Downy Wrinkle Release Plus -- have you tried this?!?!? Oh my gosh, it's amazing. No more walking out the house with wrinkles

When you arrive at your final destination, pull out all your garments and hang them up. Give each piece a quick spray with Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus and a gentle tug, let the wrinkles disappear while you finish unpacking.

It’s also great at removing static cling and leaves you smelling like you just pulled your clothes out of the dryer! I’ve even  found it to be effective to spritz straight on my clothes and hand press and pull out any wrinkles. Love this for when I’ve been sitting for awhile and need to get wrinkles out of the back of my shirt, skirt or dress.

Downy Wrinkle Releaser is my new favorite thing! I keep one at home and one in my gym bag and one in my car, no more wrinkles!

8. The ultimate eyeshadow palette.

There are a few makeup products that I adore but Lancome’s Auda[CITY] eyeshadow palette is at the top of my list. It has a wide variety of colors for day to night looks and can also be used as a highlighter.

9. Stay clean.

To prevent breakouts while traveling I always carry Neutrogena’s Makeup Remove Wipes to clean my face with, and keep a pack of Boogie Wipes handy for my little ones and anything else you might need a wipe for!

    • Oh Jill, I always feel like a hot mess! Thankful for friends like Tori who remind me I don’t always have to feel that way :) I don’t use many beauty products at all, but there is a rose water spray from lush that makes me feel like a million bucks! After reading her tips, I’m thinking I need to try more of these! I even contemplated stopping at Ulta yesterday to track down that eyeshadow palette … me, with fancy eye makeup. Oh, then we might be in some serious trouble!! :)
