Celebrate /// A Downhome Independence Day

Every year about this time I get all nostalgic and long for the good old days. I know because I’ve brought it up before, both here and here, apparently the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Fitting, I guess, for this adopted Air Force veteran. The man who helped raise me was born on the 2nd of July and loved this country more than anyone I have ever met.

It’s deep engrained in who I am, and I want to make sure those feelings are planted in my own children as well.

Independence Day is about family. And summer, and backyard barbecues, and sweet treats, and colorful fireworks, and being close to and feeling grateful for the ones you love. These images all evoke those feelings for me, so I’m using them to channel my creative spirit.

I have a fun DIY project for coming up later this week, it will take me a bit out of my comfort zone — but since it’s for the 4th of July! I’m willing to give it a try.

I can’t send you off without something useful for your own Independence Day celebration,

– like this incredible ice cream cake
– or this awesome idea for a backyard beverage station
– how about these make ahead mango raspberry margaritas!

Ok, I’m off to get craftin, see you in a few!
