Have you been watching this season’s Design Star? Last night, I watched the episode where they HGTV’d someone’s house and Kellie and Leslie got to work on the two little boy’s room.
I was stoked! Two of my favorite designers (personality wise) working on my favorite rooms of the home, the kids room. I could hardly wait. I pushed aside all my other obligations and sat down to soak in everything they had to offer …
and boy,
was I … disappointed.

I couldn’t believe how much these two mothers dropped the ball when given the opportunity, to really shine in an area they should have identified so well with.
Leslie and Kellie must not have access to Pinterest! Because if they did, I know they could have learned a few things from these designers and moms who really created show-stoppers for their kids rooms!

Meet Carly, she constructed this
3D Letter Wall Decor for her son Mason

Next up, Lauren Clark and her adorable Airplane Mobile, eek! Love!!

And finally, Jenna and her super cool Skateboard Shelves.
I’m thinking these ladies could have given Kellie and Leslie a run for their money!! What do you think? Follow the links to each project, so you can get started on your own super cool kids room decor. And of course, let me know how it all turns out. My only problem, is I can’t decide which one I should do first!

Those are definitely way better projects. I saw that great car monogram a few months ago and just had to make it. I’ve got three boys of my own so I’m always on the lookout for good boy themed projects. Last year’s focus was a knight theme for my oldest and now I’m on to Superheros for the middle guy. It’s so much fun!
Yea, what were they thinking?!? Love the ideas you posted though.
I completely agree! I thought they both did horrible jobs. I mean when the boy wants lockers or a bunk bed…that’s what you give him! They were a hot mess. But frankly, I am so glad Cathy is gone from the week before that I hardly care. Lisa~
OMG Stacy, you are a pinning MACHINE. I haven’t let myself go all crazy on Pinterest yet because I’m trying to manage my addictions and obsessions, but wow! I cannot wait for when I get to do children’s rooms. I definitely know whose boards to look at when that day comes.
Stacey! You find some of the neatest kid’s room ideas. You are my current go to for that stuff. I am in love with the letter and toy car shadow box. It’s simple and the theme can change depending on the child. I just pinned it! As for the HGTV show, we haven’t had cable in a long time so I don’t watch this show, but based on the two photos you’ve posted here, the rooms really do seem to fall way short of amazing. Maybe YOU should audition for the next season of the show?
Stacy, I agree with you! Those rooms by the designers, especially the second one with all those muted colors, are not impressive. But I love the DIY projects you found, especially the 3D art with the cars. That could work for a girls room too, if you found pink or purple cars!
Thanks for sharing!
Oh I wish I could watch that show. Looks fantastic (as do those rooms!)
I’d love a budget so I could go nuts in my boys’ room!
xx
I wish we could watch this show together!!! And then hang out for a spell in your kitchen
Miss you friend from the other side of the world …. blogging is taken a back seat for awhile. I miss my friends the most
Hi Stacy, just jumped over from your nice email to me!
Thank you! This post with boys room design is great! I am going to pin some of them
My little boys room is on my list of things “to do”!
Hey Jessica! SO glad I could help. I have several boards on Pinterest that could probably get you started … I am quite the Pinterest junkie. You might want to start here: http://pinterest.com/stacyofksw/but-the-kids-want-cars/
